buggonahill
Hello, I am trying to find some information about this item or point me to a direction where I might have some idea where to look. It is six inches in length and four inches width, weight is 4 pounds. It is petrified with chert and crusty type sides. My grandchildren are scared of it, but I think it is beautiful and it makes a great doorstop. Thank you.
Fossildude19
I see what may be the cross sections of shells in this piece of chert, but not seeing much of anything else, or anything to easily identify. buggonahill
Thank you, I know you are right because I was fairly convinced it was some very weathered that shells had attached to.
Mahnmut
Hi buggonahill, I think in your second pic I see what scares your grandchildren (I just had to remove a LED-"Lightbulb" because some features of it looked like evil eyes to my daughter). If its that resemblance to a skull you are wondering about, I have to say its pure coincidence. Its just the arrangement of the holes (maybe bivalve shells as mentioned) that triggers our face recognition. No other details fit skull or bone. Nice rock though. buggonahill
Thank you for responding. I have named it Tut and have to put it away when the kids are over. I wish I knew what it is about hunting for fossils that has overwhelmed me, I am passionate about the idea of finding a fossil now and I am going to keep searching. Best luck in your quests and endeavors for fossil finds. JK
