New Members Johnpurteeiii Posted June 7 New Members Share Posted June 7 I recently picked this skull up at a gem show. I cannot remember what its name is. I have very little info about it. other than it came from a large private collection from an older gentleman who collected his whole life. And it was harvested in the Texas badlands by him. I know it’s not much information but I’m hoping yall can help me identify it.

Opabinia Blues
It’s definitely out of the White River Formation, so the locality can’t be Texas. That rock unit doesn’t outcrop it Texas. More likely from South Dakota or Wyoming, possibly Nebraska or Colorado as well. Leptauchenia decora is an index for the Poleslide Member, the uppermost and youngest member of the White River Formation. 1 “The worse the country, the more tortured it is by water and wind, the more broken and carved, the more it attracts fossil hunters, who depend on the planet to open itself to us. We can only scratch away at what natural forces have brought to the surface.” - Jack Horner
