I think this is a petrified mushroom cap I  found it in the kings river above camp 4 1/2. Here are some pics.

Very very few fossilized mushrooms. They don't preserve in this manner.

There have been a few in Amber that have been shown on the forum recently.

Not sure what this is ?

Is it heavy for its size? Looks like a bullet.

The shape is right, but I think it might be too small. From the texture I'd guess layered concretion.

It does look like a bullet/projectile thats struck something. I'd expect it to be flat on the impact side but the overall colour looks right for old lead based material. There's a couple of spots local to me where you can find a lot of similar but larger spent bullets. They are places the Canadian Army trained prior to D Day.

@Majesstic How big is this?

@blackdanter How small are they?

Usually up to an inch in diameter around the impact end, sometimes less. It depends on the distance traveled by the projectile and the caliber. That object is quite small but it could be a 22 caliber bullet I guess. We find those but then it's a US origin caliber so correct for Canadian Army use here.

This bullet mushroomed just the way the manufacturer promised.  Without a jacket, so not military.  Probably .22 caliber hollowpoint.

That would explain the amount of deformation with the lower charge. I'm thinking this was probably before modern varmint rifles.
