DPS Ammonite
Welcome to the Forum. They look like clams. What is the age of the rocks? Cretaceous? 1 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. westcoast
@DPS Ammonite and @Jeffrey P, when you use the term 'clams' do you use that in the same way as others use the general term 'bivalve'?
DPS Ammonite
Clams are bivalves. The term clams is sometimes slightly more restrictive especially in the culinary sense; oysters and clams are sort of different. My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. See my Arizona Paleontology Guide link The best single resource for Arizona paleontology anywhere. Plantguy
Cool finds! Kind of look like one of the Inoceramids, more likely one of the Buchia sp. as they show up north to the south in California's L. Jur and Cretaceous rocks. Maybe you'll run across some that are more complete and possibly show the hinge area...Maybe its the Mariposa formation in that area? Continued hunting success!
