Hi there. I've been trying to find some iron pyrite, but don't really know exactly what I'm looking for.
I found these on a river shore in East Anglia, UK, and wonder if any of them could be pyrite, or am I just weighing down my pockets with brown pebbles...? There is a lot of flint in this area.

Any help much appreciated!! Thanks :)

I can't think of a reason to search for lumps of iron pyrite.  :zzzzscratchchin:

If you suspect any of these lumps to be pyrite, can't you just abrade it to find the brassy color?   I would use a hardened steel, half-round, bastrd-cut, machinist's file.

Thanks, I'll give that a go.

I want to have a go at fire lighting with flint and iron pyrite. Also to try making copperas (iron II sulphate).
