New Members Riverocks Posted June 21 New Members Share Posted June 21 Hi there. I've been trying to find some iron pyrite, but don't really know exactly what I'm looking for. I found these on a river shore in East Anglia, UK, and wonder if any of them could be pyrite, or am I just weighing down my pockets with brown pebbles...? There is a lot of flint in this area. Any help much appreciated!! Thanks
Harry Pristis
I can't think of a reason to search for lumps of iron pyrite. If you suspect any of these lumps to be pyrite, can't you just abrade it to find the brassy color? I would use a hardened steel, half-round, bastrd-cut, machinist's file. 1 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
New Members Riverocks Posted June 22 Author New Members Share Posted June 22 Thanks, I'll give that a go. I want to have a go at fire lighting with flint and iron pyrite. Also to try making copperas (iron II sulphate).
