rickeclectic
Found this a couple of years ago in some road construction in central Texas. Kept chipping away around it as I thought it was a couple of large rudists, but it turned out to be one weird one! Only one I've seen. About the size of a Softball. The rudist part is very hard stuff (and so is the surrounding matrix). Anybody else seen any of these?
JamieLynn
Looks like a Toucasia rather than a Diceras. They are "relatively" common in the Texas Hill Country and have that exact shell color and texture. www.fossil-quest.com
fifbrindacier
I agree with Jamie, that's not a diceras. "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." (Antoine de Saint-Exupéry) "We only well see with the heart, the essential is invisible for the eyes." In memory of Doren
rickeclectic
Thanks for the clarification. I will christen it Toucasia!
