ChasingGhostsYT
Howdy Folks! It’s been too long since I’ve been able to get out moving rock, but I’m back up in Kingston in the Gull River Formation on a mission for a complete bug. I really like the Bathyurus trilobites, and I’m determined to find a complete on this trip. I’ve seen what they go for at auction, so finding ones my only hope 😂. Today I hit one of my spots, using last years Pyge find as a guide to key into the right layer. I did a bit of stratigraphic observation to determine the trilobitic portion lies between a layer of stone exhibiting mud cracks, and a substantial bryzoa/crinoid/shell hash layer. Keying into this portion resulted in quite a few pieces of bugs, just not the complete I’m looking for yet. Find 1.) Bathyurus Pygidium after some field prep Find 2.) medium chunk of rock displaying a few snails, but more importantly another pyge (Top), and a Bathyurus genial spine molt (Bottom) Find 3.) This is probably the closest I got to the Trilobitic layer, I began to uncover thoracic segments After moving to a different section of the spot I began to find more crushed black shell of larger trilobites, where I believe I narrowed into some Isotelus parts. Find 4.) Iso Cephalon Molt Find 5.) I strongly believe this is a smashed up Iso pyge, not 100% and it’s a poor photo Find 6.) This is a bit of an Oddity, however I’m fairly certain this happens to be a Trilobite Hypostome Find 7.) Cephalopod I managed to start cracking into some minerals before I left, only one really decent chunk (Shown Below) I plan to return an hit a run of a few sites again in a couple of days, I’m praying to the fossil gods man because I’d really love to find one good Gull River bug this trip!
Fossildude19
Looks like it was a high energy environment. That is going to make finding a complete one pretty difficult. Not impossible, but much more difficult. Just don't hold your breath. It may take a long time to realize this dream. Great finds, though, and keep on looking. You seem to have narrowed down the correct layers, at least! Congratulations on that. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks."
