How much of this mongolian pterosaur is real ?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I was scrolling throug some already sold pieces on our favourite online auction site today and came across this completly weird looking mongolian pterosaur. I wondered if its real or not, but I hope it is ! Let me just say, this thing, or a brandnew VW Polo...

The head looks carved, the claws look weird, and the ribs look so "stiff", so I have my doubts on it :headscratch:

Whats your opinion on this piece ?

I can contribute a picture of this Pterosaur under UV light. Normally I would expect the bones to glow very, very faintly and not appear darker than the matrix as here.

But this is neither proof of the authenticity of this fossil nor of a forgery.
The only thing you can see clearly are the glued areas

I didn't buy this piece.

I'm just wondering why they carved an amphibian head on it. They forgot to carve a 4th ray on the right foot (also check the smeared paint at the right ankle). It looks like they accidentally added claws on the right knee and ribs to the tail before hastily scraping them off.

This is supposed to be a relative of Anurognathus. In Solnhofen they look like this:
