New Members DilotheDino Posted June 25 New Members Share Posted June 25 Hi everyone, I’m new to the Paleo world and I was recently gifted this XL Spinosaurus tooth that came from a local rock and fossil shop. It appears there’s been quite a few of repairs and restorations done to it but I’m not sure. What do you guys think? Unfortunately, I have pretty limited information on it. Any advice / information is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys Location: Morocco Total Length: ≈ 7 1/2” Total Width: ≈ 1 3/8” Total Tooth Length: ≈ 3 7/8” Total Root Length: ≈ 3 7/8”
Phos_01
What a Frankenstein. Sadly its a complete mess of fabrications. Very poorly done. Good thing you had it as a gift so no damage is done. Spinosaurid teeth are not that rare, lots of them around. Always usefull to post them before you intent of buying one
New Members DilotheDino Posted June 25 Author New Members Share Posted June 25 Well, darn. Thank you for the information, I really appreciate it. When a tooth has been heavily fabricated, do they use different parts of other dinos to put the tooth together or is it usually a resin, eproxy kind of material? Thank you again
Fossildude19
It can be a mixture of both. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." They have huge ateliers in Marroko that 'enhance' and fabricate all these things. Sadly every once and a while someone falls for this, and ends up spending allot on a fake. Watch out for 'rooted' Spino teeth, they are quite rare, and almost always fabricated. Spinosaurid claws are also a thing, I have made a topic out of it on this forum. I would say 95% of what you see in Marrocan claws are fake. In this case im afraid there isn't even a real part of a spino tooth here.
