Alston Gee
Hi everyone, I recently traveled to Southern China and noticed some local fossil dealers listing a few “freshwater plesiosaur” teeth originally acquired from the Ziliujing Formation in the Sichuan Basin. I searched online and found that crocodyliforms also appeared in the same region, including Teleosauridae indet. (still unsure how teleosaurus could survive in freshwater), Sunosuchus shunanensis, and Hsisosuchus dashanpuensis. I am having a hard time distinguishing between teleosaurus and plesiosaur teeth. Can anyone help me identify the following teeth? They could be Teleosaurus, freshwater plesiosaur, or something else. I will also attach screenshots of the new, unidentified freshwater plesiosaur teeth from the Xintiangou Formation in the Sichuan Basin to this post for comparison. @pachy-pleuro-whatnot-odon
Alston Gee
Here are some photos of the above fourth and fifth teeth. @pachy-pleuro-whatnot-odon Alex, what’s your thoughts on these teeth? Alston Gee
Here are photos of another tooth that I believed was a crocodile tooth because of its fine striation (still unsure though). @pachy-pleuro-whatnot-odon Edited Friday at 03:26 PM by Alston Gee
Alston Gee
The geological age of these teeth was from Early-Mid Jurassic.
