New Members Wildbones Posted Saturday at 01:26 AM New Members Share Posted Saturday at 01:26 AM Any help with an ID on this find from Charmouth please? Found amongst a cliff fall of mudstone. I've never seen the irredescent sheen on anything but fossil shells before, so it feels a bit special. I've only ever found really found Ammonites and Belemnites before at Charmouth. Any thoughts? Paleontology was not my strongest subject in my geology degree so any keen eyes, I'd love to know what it may have once belonged to. Found on my birthday too 🦖 Thanks! Fossildude19
Sorry, this does not look like bone to me. Maybe a partial bivalve steinkern? 2 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." New Members Wildbones Posted Saturday at 02:18 PM Author New Members Share Posted Saturday at 02:18 PM Thanks Tim. I am now convinced it is not bone, like you. Further research, I think it might be part of the rarer ammonite Oxynoticeras lymense. The infill shape on cross section is very similar to the image d. In link below. The cliff fall may have included Stonebarrow Pyritic Member, as I also found a good number of perfect pyritic ammonites. What do you/others think? 🧐 Leigh-Ann https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Asteroceratidae-and-Schlotheimiidae-Scale-bar-5-cm-Note-different-scale-for-e-f-k_fig3_353043626
