Found this 4 yrs ago on banks beside a local creek that I have found a trove of treasures in.

I never had seen anything close until seeing a post from lubster on this forum.

Item is 3 inches in length and around 2 inches in width with 3 inch diameter circumference.

Any thoughts?? Is it really a fossil I've been making a fool of myself to find out.

Welcome to the Forum.  :)

While this does slightly resemble lubster's fossil egg, I don't believe this is one.

Looks more like a chert nodule or concretion.

The pictures are rather blurry, however.

Better pictures will tell the tale.  Try to back off of the item, and take the pictures outside, in daylight.

Lay it on a flat, single colored surface, and take pictures of all sides.

Where in Virginia was this found?

I've not heard of any fossil eggs having been found in Virginia.

Hello,

sorry to dissapoint, but this is definetly not an egg. It looks more like a split concretion (ironstone concretion?) where the core had'nt been whashed out yet.

I agree with Tim, I found it also informative, but sadly Im only able to react to a post only once.

Are good signatures really that important ?
