Small circular fossil?

Hello, my wife found this stone with strange imprint on it … found at the bay beach in Long Beach Island NJ .. very small used microscope to zoom in and took a screenshot.

Looks like a cross section of a crinoid stem to me

Or a solitary crinoid columnal/ossicle. Or just solitary imprints of columnals.

 

Also, there is a fenestrate bryozoan nearby.

What's the difference between this and a crinoid stem?  My invert knowledge is severely lacking.

One segment vs many segments.

Stems are made up of individual crinoid columnals/ossicles.  Each segment can get disarticulated as they decay.

A distinction can be made between segment and ossicle too. Ligaments in the stem connect a varying number of ossicles. Often, they survive long enough that a number of ossicles are preserved in articulation, a segment of the stem.
