I found this unuseally smooth rock on a sand beach by the coast. Could it be a fossil?stone.thumb.jpeg.60104953f4eeed20accd40a401b07865.jpeg

Definitely is a fossil. Most likely a brachiopod. It should be fairly easy to expose more of it.

yep, necessary to expose more of it

Brachiopod could be possible, or a shell or a gastropod or...

I'm happy to have found a fossil, but I'm afraid I might damage it while trying to open it. Do you have any advice? :)

Out of curiosity. Which area you found it?

There's no such thing as too many teeth.

I found it on the coast of Northern Ostrobothnia.

Then its very lucky. Since only good fossil areas are in Åland.

In mainland fossils are very rare. Only few found around coast. Most likely flushed from Baltic sea.

It is a naturally polished chert nodule with a shell imprint on it.

If you try too "open it" it will shatter into many pieces.

I would keep it as is.
