Hello all, can anyone help me identify the species to which this tooth belongs? It was found on Manasota Key, FL. Front and back of the tooth are pictured, respectively. Thanks in advance.

I think it is probably a very worn and polished snaggletooth shark tooth (Hemipristis). The bump in the top view makes me think it's this species rather than a bull shark (or similar). If it is a snaggletooth it has tumbled in the surf long enough to lose all its serrations.

Just by looking at it I think it could possibly be a really worn out snaggletooth

The tooth is extremely water worn. Much better more in focus pictures could help. However, I do not think it is Hemipristis. The tooth more resembles a species of Carcharhinus. Due to the wear, a positive I.D. could likely never be concluded.

Hi,

It could be that, but it could also be something else. Given the state of wear of this tooth, there is not enough left to have a certainty one day.
