New Members cjre84 Posted July 16 New Members Share Posted July 16 Hey, New to the forum so hope this post is OK. Was hoping to get some expert advice on a couple of pieces of what I'm hoping are bone fragments. Both found in ComptonBay, Isle of Wight in the UK. They are very small so I've no included anything for scale, I appreciate ID of species etc would be impossible given the size, but wondering if these are actually bone fragments? I'm very new to fossil hunting and looking to fulfil a childhood dream! Thanks in advance
New Members cjre84 Posted July 16 Author New Members Share Posted July 16 Sorry I should add, the first item changes colour significantly when wet as per third image. It looks very boney to me, but I question it due to the colour!
New Members AmetuerFossilhunter69 Posted July 16 New Members Share Posted July 16 Forgive me if I am wrong I think it might just be a rock with a slight imperfection but again it could be bone fragments. I’m going to tag two slightly more experienced fossils collectors @M3gal0don_M4n @Brevicollis
New Members cjre84 Posted July 16 Author New Members Share Posted July 16 20240716_110605.mp4 Thanks very much for the reply, I was really hopeful on the lighter colour one. It is porous on both ends which really made it stand out, but the colour and reaction to moisture is 20240716_110605.mp4 confusing. Adding a video to give a better perspective: 20240716_110605.mp4
Fossildude19
Unidentifiable bone bits. There are no distinguishing characteristics by which to identify further. 4 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Been trying to find some pieces since childhood. Hopefully I'll find something bigger / better before the end of the trip.
M3gal0don_M4n
Yes, I concur. They appear to be bone fragments that sadly cannot, and probably will never(as far as I know), be identified. It is always a satisfying feeling when lives out their childhood dream. I too as a child (4-8ish) always dreamed of finding a fossil, and not long after I did (post joining this forum.) with luck, you will find something more visually impressive. Good luck! “Deep words go here”- Me, 3/9/

Thanks for the reply and message of encouragement! I'm really pleased just to have found some bone at last, and as you said hopefully more exciting finds to come!
