coprolites?

Hello folks,

I was out on a pet wood adventure and ran across these unusually shaped objects.

 

Like a lot of things in this river, they are coated in a brittle brown substance that oxidizes when exposed to air, indicating iron content, i believe. (please correct me if i’m wrong.) Could they be coprolites? they definitely have a taper and one has a flat spot on the bottom. I slabbed and polished the larger one to take a peek inside.

 

 

 

Immediately under the shell is a soft white clay-like material. beneath that everything is hard like glass, with quartz veins and some other interesting colored areas with pink and yellow. there’s  also tiny white fragments in pockets

so, can anyone tell me if i polished a turd?😂

It doesn't necessarily mean the other one is the same. Concretions can have fossils in them.

Thanks Rockwood, i’ll slab the other one and post pics. could this outer shell be the ironstone i’ve seen you mention? i find tons of stuff coated in it.

It is similar to ironstone, though it probably doesn't have very much iron in it. A little rust (iron oxide) may be influencing the coloration, but I doubt it can be called ironstone.

Nothing spectacular about this one.

Below are some other items from my “potentially poo” box if anybody wants to take a stab at id’ing them. i realize they’re probably not #2’s but way back when i named the box i didn’t know any better.
