Very interesting sides on this one, but would be unusual for a vertebra (note the spelling here - vertebrae is plural, vertebra is one vert.). I disagree with you 100%. In fact most of my vertebra identified as Cretaceous ray have a similar appearence on the sides. They tend to have that look.. Please explain your thought process... That was on my mind too but the shape and overall look were screaming ray to me. Squatina usually have some cartilage on the sides too (but that's not true in all cases). I'm still sold on 'ray'. I still dont understand what you are trying to say. How and why after seeing my last example can you think this isn't a vertebra? Look, here is another ray vert. I found in New Jersey which actually does have some of that 'white' I see on the posters example. The coloration is obviously a result of preservation. I can provide other examples too. Just answer me this so I know whether or not I should continue this 'debate'. Do you still not believe this is NOT a vertebra?
