New to this hobby, which I didn t even believe was possible. Are these fossils authentic?

Hello

I didn t even know this hobby was possible and that cheaper fossils exist. I studied how to recognise authentic fossils over the internet but really am not even a beginner. I am really enthused about discovering this but I don t want to believe this fossil is ancient when it s actually made from bath salts and tile glue.

I want to know if these specimens are authentic or if they are fake, what part of them is fake if they are not entirely fake.

Also, if anyone can recommend some european stores (if it s not allowed to post them here, maybe dm is allowed?) where it is reliable to buy authentic fossils or have a proven record of being trustworthy...:D

These look like real fossils to me.

Some Moroccan stuff - Orthocone nautiloid, shark teeth, and trilobite.

Ammonites look real also.

They are indeed real and are all relatively common fossils. I remember when I first found out about the hobby too. It's exciting, isn't it? Just be careful not to spend all your money on it. :D

I remember saying this when I started buying fossils.

Even had tiny cardboard box with sections. But then the collecting bug bites.

I said it sarcastically. I know what will ensue...

I know, I just continued it with little humor.

For some reason I have not seen many European shops. Most bigger ones seem to be in US and UK.

Instructions unclear, broke and running out of room to store fossils...

I've found lots of European sellers here and on auction sites. They just don't have brick and mortar storefronts or standalone websites.

There’s a lot of German and French sellers, go to fossil fairs to get the best I think

That is most likely true. European sellers I have been bought from have indeed been via auctions.

Hopefully op is able to find some.

Hi,

It is normal, we do not advertise for merchant sites. Speaking of a "favorite auction site" everyone understands what it is...

Yes. Online.

But if you are not familiar with specific fossil and do plan to buy something from auctions, it might be wise to post pictures (without seller info) here before you deside to buy. Since there might be bad items.

For new collector I think normal shop would be easier option, which you can still check from forum.

You mean the auction from the forum? Or is there a shop on the forum?

Neither.  If you find an item you are interested in from an outside online source, or shop, you can always post pictures of it first under the "Is it Real?" section of this forum to make sure it looks real, unrestored, etc. before you purchase it.
