Hello, I saw this fully rooted moroccan Spinosaurus tooth for sale today, and wondered if the root is genuine, as most of them are fakes or reconstructed.

Its 6,2 cm long, has a good price for wich I wouldnt mind adding it to my collection.

The label says everything.

That is correct. However this one seems to be genuine. The root is real, and the crown is in good preservation.  And it has a few crack repairs and some minor filler. But overall a nice tooth for any collection.

Hi Phossy and Brevicollis.

I fear I see it different somehow. What gives it away to me, is the atypical root shape. I think a part of the original root is still there, but I really doubt the bottom half of the tooth..

We really need better pictures to be a 100% sure.

No red flags on the root per se. Repair visible and little fill.

What @Fitch1979 was maybe just seen wrong on his side. It is obviously still the lower part of the crown what is labeled as original root.

You can see the root go all the way down naturally in the first picture. Not the best tooth, but a genuine one.

Been looking again and again to this tooth now.. I hope I would be wrong, but to me the form of the root still doesnt feel right to me. It goes too straight.. but perhpas it is bc it is a small tooth or such..

Nice tooth!

The normal repaired cracks but other than that fine!

Cheers!

Using Photopea I have sharpened the image to try to see any forms of oddities on both the front and the back.
