is was found in the Carboniferous limestone of the Malahide formation , east coast Dublin Ireland, I haven’t had one of these before

Probably a terebratulid. Ones like this have often been called "Dielasma" but probably aren't. See this Brunton paper at archive.org (Although Dinantian may be a little too late for yours):
British Dinantian (Lower Carboniferous) Terebratulid Brachiopods

They're tricky and usually need details of internal structure - I'm struggling with a pile of silicified early Namurian ones myself. :)

Thank you as always TqB, i get quite a few terebratulids but not like this one, very interesting,
