I am a true novice in this area and would appreciate any help you could provide identifying this fossil. I found it on a fossil hunt in the Peace River in Florida. I was told by the guide it was most likely a piece of ivory.

Welcome to the Forum. :)

Intriguing piece, and I lack the expertise in Florida fossils that some of our members have. I will tag a few here, so hopefully you'll get input shortly. @Shellseeker @digit

these enhanced photos show well defined growth rings.  This may well be a piece of tusk or some petrified wood.

Here is the problem, You must scan your find for Schreger lines. Your photos are not close enough or clear enough for us to SEE those lines. I am in a Ct Casino. Hopefully @Kane can provide a photo of what they looklike

Kinda feel there may be some Schreger lines possibly visible where the laminations seem to be showing in the crop below. If we could get a better photo outdoors in brighter light we might be able to conclusively spot their existence. Has the feel of tusk material but without Schreger confirmation it could also be petrified wood.

Cheers.
