Petrified Wood at Calvert Cliffs?

Hey All. Been doing lots of fossil hunting near Calvert Cliffs. This time I found an unusual rock. I thought it was a piece of wood when I saw it until I felt how heavy it was. The color and sheen seem fossil like to me along with the tree ring and wood like pattern made me curious.

Is it petrified wood or is my brain being creative? If not agate, jasper?

Thanks for the help.

Wow that does look like wood. Unfortunately, it's banded chert doing a really fine imitation of wood.

Thanks. I kinda figured it was just a case of mimicry. Weird piece though.
