Mazon creek jelly fish

Crinoids

Recommended Posts

I am going through my last bucket of nodules these have been freezing and thawing for about the past year. I have deemed these unfracturable. I have now went to various other barbaric ways of opening them using 100s of different methods.

I dropped this one, which my wife scolds me not to do again as if it were on purpose. No floor damage but it did bust open when I dropped it. The other tapped opened after a few hits.

Is this a jelly fish or some kind of flower? It's a faint pattern which seemed to have busted clean on both sides. It has a paw print kind of shape not sure how else to describe it. My camera does not pick ip well so I have tried to outline it.

The other one just seems to be a long dark shape that kind of circles the whole nodule.

I am still new to these nodules and have just started opening my first ones a month ago after all of them have been frozen and thawed weeks at a time.

The rectangular one is nothing. The other one may be something. I don't see any kind of plant there, but my ability to identify complex fauna is lacking. Wait for others to chime in.

Mark.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
