Mushroom cap fossil?

Hello all,

I have never started a topic on any website so I hope I do this the right way.

I can't tell what this is, it has the general appearance of a mushroom cap, and is definitely a fossil of something. I'd love some thoughts on this.

I am in Missouri, and I found this in amongst the rock that was put around our home.

The object is about 2 1/2 cm tall, just over 3 cm long, and 3 cm wide. White/grey in color. If you look closely at the "top umbrella side" , the convex side, it looks to have lines going all the way around. And the "bottom side" is concave and has the most obvious fossil part showing.

Thank you

I agree. A very worn rugose coral.

It could be a horn (solitary) rugose coral, but some branching colonial forms were sort of segmented. Growth could often vary with the conditions at the time. I can see this being one of those segments.

Thanks everyone, I'm glad to have gotten a better understanding of what we found.
