New Members Nate B Posted July 31 New Members Share Posted July 31 I'm a pretty new fossil hunter and have been on the lookout for spots wherever I go. I took a trip past the Port Jervis area yesterday and stopped at a small creek running into the Delaware. The original spot I was planning on visiting had been closed off since the information I got about it had been posted. There was a wide variety of Devonian(?) shells and crinoids that had been carried down from a hill above. I attached some of the better pieces I found. I'm not sure what the small speckled patch on one find is though, any info would be great! 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9.
Fossildude19
1-3 - are spiriferid brachiopods of some sort. They are internal molds, and as such, difficult to ID. 4 - is a crinoid and bryozoan hash plate. 5 - Could be a bryozoan. 6 - is a bivalve, maybe something similar to Modiomorpha, but could be something different. Hard to tell, as again, it looks to be an internal mold. 7 - Looks like an imprint of Mucrospirifer mucronatus. 8 - is a bunch of crinoid stems and columnals. 9 - looks like a brachiopod death assemblage, the larger spiriferid variety. Maybe something like Mediospirifer or Spincyrtia. Jeffrey P
These all look like specimens from the Middle Devonian Mount Marion Formation. Nice finds!
