New Members lauren19942024 Posted August 1 New Members Share Posted August 1 Need better pics please let me know. Really curious. It's probably petrified wood, because of the ridged woody looking side, ... but any guesses, comments, or questions? (It's about a little longer then a AA battery half inch-inch thick and a AA battery and a quarter long... I'm so sorry I dont have a ruler not good at measuring either apparently. 🤷♂️) Never seen petrified wood with such wavy soft lines. I tried to get every good angle. Is it petrified wood? Something else? Or ... *suspensful noises ... DUN DUUN DUUUUUN*..... Nothing?🤣
Rockwood
Chaetetid sponge or tabulate coral. My record of distinguishing which isn't good.

Ludwigia
Could be any number of things. Hard to tell. I'm not seeing any obvious wood grain structure here at any rate. It might help further if you could describe the circumstances under which this was found (e.g. picked up from the surface? taken directly from an outcrop?) A more precise location and surrounding stratigraphy if known would also help. Are there already any known finds of petrified wood in your area? Greetings from the Lake of Constance. digit
I'm not seeing any certain signs of anything biological. Looks like a weathered out mineral vein. Possibly @ynot may have some insight? Cheers. -Ken
ynot
The only thing I can think of is petrified palm or fern, but that is only a guess. Can not think of any geologic that would form the patterns evident.
