Odd zigzag structure?

Occasionally I come across these zigzag structures in fine grained Devonian age rocks in Central New York. This I believe is Onondaga Fm. (maybe Edgecliff Mb) but I've found them in the Manlius Fm. (?) also. I don't even know if its a fossil or trace or mineral at this point. Any insight is helpful. It continues through the other side of this slab (about 2 cm thick).
