Rita__
Hi all 👋🏼 I keep finding these on the beach… not sure if they are just shell fragments? Sorry in advance if they are. But I thought they may resemble worn down ray mouth plates/fragments? One of them has distinct ridges that resemble ray teeth (#3 - with the red arrow pointing to it). A few others also have ridges that aren’t as clear. They all seem to have a somewhat similar overall appearance (one smooth side and one rough side) .. Thanks in advance! also adding a few closer views of #3
Fin Lover
Some of them look like pieces of ray mouth plate to me. Some don't, but I also don't usually see them this "polished" so others may have a different opinion. 2, 4, 7, 8 and 9 are the ones I'm not convinced are ray, but see what others say. 1 1 Fin Lover
ted coulianos
most are probably very worn fragments of ray crushing plates; some just look like very worn bone fragments; #3 looks like a worn fragment of stingray tail spine.
New Members That One Guy Posted August 4 New Members Share Posted August 4 I’m seeing ray teeth as well, but not for all. You might have some other animal hard parts mixed in. I’ve found some ray mouth plate fragments that are polished like this in areas along the Georgia coast. Definitely not shell fragments.
