So I left the Dodo and Irish Elk on the 2nd floor, and wandered in the Ancient Culture, plus Rocks and minerals sections on the 3rd Floor. Once again choosing my favorite exhibits out of hundreds available.

I wonder what those hands hanging from the ceiling are about,   but maybe I know.

As I learned more, I found these cultures fascinating.

Came to a Balcony , Overlooking a vast courtyard down on the 2nd Floor..

A Blue whale used to hang here,  but the museum has elevated the 3 limbed Archelon Sea Turtle from the entrance foyer to the main Gallery.  As a 5 year old , I could reach over and touch the carapace. No longer allowed..  I still approve of the promotion.

The stuff that dreams are made of.... I stood a while,  enjoying the view...

Then quickly moving to Rocks and Minerals,  capturing a few photos...

I never made it to the 4th floor...  Time ran out... But my daughter did and captured these photos.. The giant shrimp is a new addition.

But these dioramas are exactly the way they were in 1950,  with mammals and birds and crustaceans hiding in the grasses and trees and an index to identify the occupants.

There were many of these ... about 20-25 from nature vistas from many different US States..  This one below from the Colorado Rocky Mountains..

I and my family had a fantastic day.  If you get the opportunity,  it is well worth the admission .. free but the number of tickets per day are limited.  Plan ahead.
