New Members Carnage Posted August 5 New Members Share Posted August 5 I found this in Brooklyn NY USA today. i have googled the image to see what kind of rock it is but results indicate it could be a fossil rather than a banded rock. Can anyone tell me? it is approx 10cm
Kane
Certainly an interesting banded rock, but I do not think it is a fossil. A very neat geologic specimen regardless! 4 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
New Members Carnage Posted August 6 Author New Members Share Posted August 6 Thanks Kane it’s kind of you to help me out. Much appreciated. the fossils I looked at that were similar were some kind of dinosaur molar. and it’s kind of tooth shaped. Some of it broke off when I dug it out. Jaybot
Welcome to the forum! I agree with Kane's id. Just a side note, google lens only searches for images that are superficially similar to the program; it's not a reliable Id'ing resource in my opinion. Don't be discouraged, I started the same way Not sure how far a drive it is, but I know there is good trilobites in NY. Maybe try joining a Fossil/rockhounding club? Happy hunting! The banding is superficially similar to the ridges seen in a mammoth molar, but this lacks the general shape and relief found in the ridges. Mark. Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
