There are likely tidal forecasts by the day if you spend time looking for them.

Making predictions this far out might be folly.

  • Kane changed the title to What is a good time of day for hunting fossils in Lyme Regis during December?

As Kane points out, it depends on the time of day that the tides are progressing and receding and of course the weather as well, so check out both when the time draws near.

I would personally avoid Lyme regis.

Very over collected.

Seatown, which is just along the coast is a haven for ammonites during scouring times.

There is a website called uk fossils.

Go on the homepage to find a map of the uk(you may have to put 'uk fossils locations' in the search bar).

You can click on dorset and it has a list of many sites.

The best time of day for fossil hunting in Lyme Regis during December is typically around low tide, which often occurs in the early morning or late afternoon. During low tide, more of the beach and rocky areas are exposed, increasing your chances of finding fossils like ammonites.

Check the local tide tables for Lyme Regis closer to your visit in December 2024 to plan your trip around the lowest tide of the day. Be sure to also go early in the day to take advantage of the best light and avoid crowds as well.
