Parasaurolophus Walkeri

Recommended Posts

Found some Ammonites at a store in MT.

The store owner said he got them at a fossil show in AZ, so I don't know where they were found.

What genera are they? Also, what are these little patterns on my ammonites?

The pattern is on both, but is easier to see on one.

The pattern is easiest to see on the smaller opalised (opalized?) one and is at the base where the tentacles would come out of. The bigger one, as previously mentioned, has a similar pattern, but it isn’t visible in the shot because it is covered in a chalk like substance (probably chalk).

I believe these are from Madagascar, Early Cretaceous if I remember correctly. Not sure about the formation. The patterns you are seeing are called sutures, which delineate the chambers of the shell.

And about the bright image with the 2”, I screenshotted that in measure (I’m on my phone) to give you a size for one as a reference.

  • Fossildude19 changed the title to Ammonite ID's?

They are commonly referred to as Cleoniceras (smooth one) and Perisphinctes ammonites.

Not sure of the actual correct names, but a Google search will show you similar Madagascan ammonites.
