SharkySarah
Hey guys! I would love any opinions y’all have on these odd balls. Thank you all in advance!! Scale is of course in mm. SP 1 - at first I thought it was an ugly crocodile tooth but now I think it’s the internal mold of a belemnite or something SP 2 - Enchodus tooth and jaw ? FB C 3 in particular. Not sure what to think on that one. FB D- I’m thinking 1 and 2 are crab claws? They’re conical and hollow. Curious about 10 FB G 1 is fish ? 2 is weird maybe ray ? SP 4- tube worms or Hybodont spines? MGA 8- has anyone found anything like this before here? It’s a twig but it’s hard not modern MGA 10 - maybe it’s just a rock but it’s flat and the one side has this cool pattern, the other side is black. Maybe scale? MGB 12 - ??? SP 6- fish jaw? SP9 - turtle or croc bone?? SP 10- some kind of ray tooth? SP 11 - dermal element ? thank you again! I appreciate any help! Some of this really has my head scratching.
Andúril Flame of the West
I agree that #1 is not a tooth but rather some sort of internal mold or simply compacted sediment. SP9 looks like it may be a turtle bone and some of the assorted pieces could be denticles or other chondrichthyan material.
SharkySarah
@Andúril Flame of the Westthanks for the feedback! The first one really had me in the field. I thought it was a crocodile tooth until I looked at it and realized there’s no enamel but it’s the perfect conical shape. And thanks about the bone! Fossildude19
I think the first is a steinkern of a belemnite phragmocone. Carl
FBC3, FBG2, MGB12, SP10, & SP11 are all chondrichthyan teeth and most are likely Ischyrhiza mira oral teeth. FBC3 might not be I. mira. FBG1 is probably a busted I. mira rostral denticle.
