Hello! This is new for me and I am looking for help identifying a fossil I found at the beach. I believe it is a tooth from a feline, but I am not sure. It was found in Nassau County, Florida, USA. Nassau County is the most northeastern point in the state of Florida just below Georgia. Amelia Island is the beach it was found on. FAny help is appreciated! I was very excited to find this while looking for sharks teeth. Thank you!

Nice find!  Here's some experts that can help:

@Shellseeker @digit @Brandy Cole @PrehistoricFlorida

There are definitely others that I'm forgetting... apologies to those individuals.

@Veronica_star, can we see a top view?  Thanks

Nice carnassial! Let's see what Jack has to say--he's been studying mammal teeth that he finds while hunting the Peace.

It's a carnivore and likely small for a Dire Wolf so felid over canid is probably the right direction.

Cheers.

Not only that, but it seems too 'blade like' to be a canid.

I knew I had this some where:

Your tooth seems to be about 16 mm,  That is small for Coyote... possibly some enamel broken off..

Well, after seeing the above view I retract my feline guess.. especially after Jack's post :oO: :)

Could it be a coyote p4 that is broken; or it could be a less broken fox p4?

15 mm wide, Vulpes vulpes.

Found picture from an online vendor.

I did not really know the answer.  WHY exactly is it a Bobcat tooth, So I searched the internet .  Did one for Bobcat maxilla,  and then another on TFF and found this...

If you read the thread, you will also know why your P4 is a Bobcat tooth.... If you pursue this hobby, the Internet and old TFF threads are your friends.
