Any ideas on this? Figured it was coral when I first popped it out of the shale but now something seems off. Found in a river bed near Tully NY. I tried adding pictures from as many angles as possible. Thanks for any help!

It's a brachiopod. Looks like a rhynchonellid, Hypothyridina maybe but I don't know if it occurs there.

Hypothyridina  is a good match; a guide fossil to the Middle & Upper Devonian.  Hypothyridina venustula is found in the Middle Devonian of New York.  Here's a line drawing from

The line drawing shows 7 costae in the sulcus. The photo shows 4, making me suspicious of the identification, though admit to not being versed in New York's Devonian

Photos actually show 6 maybe 7.

The preservation makes it hard to distinguish exactly.
