Help with cleaning Larsonite slab needed

I just purchased this beautiful little piece of larsonite from a seller online, and when it arrived I realized someone had written the price on it in marker (and considering they were only charging $10) likely some time ago.

I messaged the seller and her response was “put some carburetor spray on it”, which I don't have, and that sounds like an oily mess. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I tried some standard rock cleaner I had around and it didn't do a thing.

Have you tried vinegar, or hydrogen peroxide? Lime Away?

Yes, do try what Tim is suggesting, but I fear that the marker may have seeped under the surface and you might have to sand and polish it out.

Thank you guys for your insights! I ended up trying all of Tims suggestions, and even went to Lowes to try Carb Cleaner. At the end of the day it seems like you are right Ludwigia 💔 The etsy seller did refund my purchase, but I can’t get over who would write on a 15 million year old piece of petrified bog wood?! Clearly someone who didn’t understand what they were doing (hopefully). I am going to try to sand it off today!! IMG_6167.thumb.jpeg.9e3906b02d89cffef50483b91be0c207.jpeg

I would leave it alone. You can hardly see it if you're not looking for it. Leave it on a windowsill in direct sunlight -- it will fade in a few months.
