IMG_3702.HEICStumbled across these fossils while out walking.  Still in situ. IMG_3702 about 12cms in diameter, IMG_3704 about 20 cms in diameter.  Area is Limestone and I think Devonian era.  Can anyone identify them?  Lots of ammonites in the area. Are they the mirror imprint of ammonites or are they some type of Cnidaria?

It wouldn't be devonian for an ammonite, I dont think I've ever heard of a uk devonian cephalopod being found?

I suspect it is jurrassic?

I don't doubt this being so in this case. Ammonites were in existence during the Devonian, however.

Just to avoid any confusion here, "Ammonites"  is a layman's term for spiral cephalopods. The Orders Goniatida (Devonian), Ceratida (Triassic) and Ammonitida (Jurassic-Cretaceous) all belong to the Sub-Class Ammonoidea, but many people call them all Ammonites, although the more accepted terms are Ammonites for the Ammonitida, Ceratites for the Ceritida and Goniatites for the Goniatida.
