Preparation methods for ankylosaurid scutes

Id like to hear what the ideal method is for prepping a fossil with the texture like shown in the picture. Its an ankylosaur scute with some very tough matrix stuck in the grooves of the fossil. scutes are quite stable and seem to be the most dense dinosaur fossils I find, but Id still be concerned about potentially damaging the fossil. Air abrasion might work.

Acid prep might work, but Air abrasion is much less risky, and will likely work.
