Is this a fossil?

Hi there,

I found a little strangely formed piece of rock some days ago.
It was found at the brown coal excavation site of "Tagebau Inden" NRW, Germany.
So it could come from everywhere in between 0-230m deep... (that´s the operational depth of the mine)

The piece itself is about 10mm long and around 4mm in diameter.

It is tube shaped and both ends seem to be broken off, so the piece is not whole.

In addition, it seems to be (have been) hollow. There is a round little opening on each end.

The tube has regular bumps on the outside, it somehow reminds me of sea urchins shell or other sea life / crustations shells or similar.

Maybe I´m wrong, but it does not look like a simple stone :)
Hope you can help me out.

Thank you,

h8cr8

What is the size of this item?

Also, can we get pictures of the ends, looking straight on?

I think it is a section of ammonite whorl. The ends with the round holes have the cat's paw shape.

[edit: maybe? The lack of regularity in shape is throwing me off a bit.]

Hi there,

thanks for looking into it!

As stated in my post, the piece itself is about 10mm long and around 4mm in diameter.

I added additional photos from the ends, with/out lights.

Best regards,

Sebastian

Perhaps beekite formation battling with the tiny sutures?
