New Members David C Posted August 20 New Members Share Posted August 20 This Meg tooth was reportedly found in South Texas, but I have my doubts. Can anyone ID the most likely approximate area it was found.
jikohr
Hi, Welcome to the fossil forum! It looks like the ones I see from the east U.S. but that's about it. Pinning a Meg to a specific location there is pretty difficult since you get the same range of colors in most areas (Bone Valley, Florida being the exception, those are really unique). The only other things I can say are that The Carolinas tend to produce most of the Megs on the market and that I'm not sure Megs can even be found in Texas without drilling really deep. At least I've never heard of them being found there and I lived in Houston for most of my life. Can't say I blame you for being skeptical about the location. Maybe someone else can provide some other insights.
