LauraMedea
Good evening everyone! I just returned from a four hour drive to finally visit a very special museum. This is the Giovanni Capellini geological museum in Bologna, Italy. Capellini is a famous nineteenth-century Italian scholar who collected and studied thousands of fossil finds and was the first Italian to create paleontological museums in Italy. Before him there were none and he decided to share his enormous collection and his knowledge with all those who were interested by opening the doors of his collection to the public. He continued to add finds from around the world. This museum is a "museum inside a museum". The building that houses it and the cases containing the fossils date back to the 19th century and in the following years the Ministry of cultural heritage and the University of paleontology tried to keep everything in its original condition as much as possible. It was wonderful to be able to visit it also because it is a somewhat out of the ordinary museum with still the original plaques and writings of the time.

mighty micraster
I wish british museums had cabinets like that. They're all just about large vertebrate complete skeletons.

This museum is a bit special because they have kept the collection in the original 19th century style and it feels like entering the house of a collector of the time. There are no other museums like this in Italy. I believe that every museum has its strong point that makes it worth visiting
