New Members woah6 Posted August 25 New Members Share Posted August 25 I found these three fossils for sale at a shop in Lebanon, they say the are from Brazil from 20 years ago. Any way to tell if they are real? To the right is a standard printer paper
Brevicollis
They seem very real to me. My account and something about me : My still growing collection : My paleoart : I'm just a young guy who really loves fossils
Fossildude19
Yes, they are real. The first image shows two large fish: the top one which may be Cladocyclus gardneri: However, I am unsure about the bottom larger fish - it may be something else. The second image appears to be a Vinctifer comptoni. All may originate from the Romualdo Formation, Santana Basin, Ceara Brazil. Lower Cretaceous. @oilshale @rocket 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." oilshale
Cladocyclus yes, but there is an additional piece of (another) fish inserted between the caudal and the dorsal fin. If you look at the proportions of other Cladocyclus specimens you can see that something is wrong. It seems to be a Frankenstein. Not sure about the bottom larger fish. The head looks very strange, but the shape, fin position, and scales look like Cladocyclus. The second fish seems to be a Vinctifer comptoni. rocket
Upper one for sure a Cladocyclus frankensteini, parts added, but that´s normal with many of the brazilian fishes Second one (the big) is 90% Cladocyclus and 10% Skull of whatever. Another fish..., might be a Parelops- or a ?Brannerion skull Nr 3, as mentioned, Vinctifer comptoni and Vinctifer comptoni , I am sure we have two of them. One in the front and a second one at the end. The double-pinna-caudalis is interesting, never seen before... Edited August 27 by rocket
