New Members Maddrax Posted August 27 New Members Share Posted August 27 Hello everyone, I have carefully looked at your posts regarding forgeries, and I think they have already helped me a lot, but I am still unsure. I am from Germany, and a dealer here is offering, among other things, this clutch of eggs. It is said to come from an old collector's estate, and he provides a certificate of authenticity with it. Is this nest genuine? Thank you for your help.
Fossildude19
Certificates of Authenticity mean nothing. Anyone with a printer can make one. New Members Maddrax Posted August 27 Author New Members Share Posted August 27 You're absolutely right! That's why I'd rather ask here. At first glance, it looks genuine to me, but the price for the clutch seems relatively cheap.
Fossildude19
I am not into these types of fossils, but from what I can see, these don't look like great eggs. mighty micraster
The matrix looks like plaster, or another man made material.
Phos_01
The overview nest looks good. However on these close up photos I see red flags on the egg shell, you can see tiny air bubbles, what indicates it being a cast. In best case some real egg shell has been added. New Members Maddrax Posted August 27 Author New Members Share Posted August 27 (edited) Thank you for your responses! Could you please mark that on the image for me? That would be very kind. If the clutch were real and, according to the seller, came from the Xixia Basin in Henan Province, China, would the sandstone with water be solid or rather soft and friable? Phos_01
4 hours ago, Maddrax said: Could you please mark that on the image for me? Here I marked it, it appears to be a bit blurred. The details have gone lost, what perfectly indicates a cast or casted eggshell parts, that are then glued to the matrix and painted. On the 4th image shown here bellow, you can see they added some real eggshell parts to make it appear authentic . I would have to look further in real life to see its authenticity , but I would avoid these after looking at these photos.
New Members Maddrax Posted August 27 Author New Members Share Posted August 27 Thank you for the markings. Could manipulation be detected with a UV lamp?
