Enigmatic Mazon Creek purchase

Evening All,

A short while ago I purchased this Mazon Creek nodule. When I first spotted the listing online it was described as a common species of worm from the Mazon Creek. At first glance I thought the ID was a bit off and maybe it was a slightly different species of worm with a death trail attached. As I'm a sucker for strange oddities it fell into my online shopping basket.

The following day the seller contacted me to say the fossil was likely misidentified. He thought it was possibly a Tully Monster proboscis. He offered a refund if I wanted but was happy to go through with the sale if I wished. I went ahead with the sale.

Now looking at it I have convinced myself I can see the eight teeth in a Tully Monsters proboscis 🤣

I would love to know what the experts here think of this strange nodule? All thoughts welcome.

Note the nodule is approximately 45mm in length along the longer axis.

Thank you for replying fossildude19. I will admit I am quite excited if I have inadvertently bought a tiny piece of one of my bucket list fossils ☺️

Nailed It! And very nicely detailed. One more vote for this species being a predator.

  • Thank You 1

Mark.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
