New Members Neodith Posted September 5 New Members Share Posted September 5 My mom was walking along Oak Island beach (NC), and found this, she also later found another one, but it only had crushed shell remnants. There are two sets of what look like rib cages (one on top, and one on the bottom), lots of semi-round shells possibly clams of some kind? and crushed shells. The rock itself has lots of pores in it and is a sandy color, there are some crystals on the rock and fossils as well, but I think that is just salt... I also know like nothing about fossils so this could all be jargon, please help.
Fossildude19
Looks like the imprints of paleozoic brachiopods. This is either a glacially or current transported piece, or one brought by human intervention. Your image is pretty blurry, and dark, but the top item looks like a spiriferid brachiopod, to me. Cropped and brightened: Other, well lit angles might tell us more. Or not. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks."
