New Members flouderfossils Posted September 6 New Members Share Posted September 6 I was recent prospecting some new spots and wanted some opinions if it would be worth a dig. It's a 12 to 15 foot embankment into a freshwater drainage canal in Pinellas county area. I know the canal is man made but there are some significant fossils sites a few miles from this site. I noticed the bank falling apart with tons of sea shells coming out of it. (Some really big shells) Is this a good sign to start to dig? Also would it be better for me to dig in the canal or above the exposed shell layer. Thanks for your input! Photo attached is one of the bigger shells I pulled from the banks. Kane
I'm not sure about the legality about digging along banks in Florida. Perhaps some of our Florida folks can weigh in. ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
Fossildude19
Digging in river or canal banks is generally frowned upon, as that destabilizes the banks by making them more prone to erosion. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks."
