Can anyone identify this fossil?

My first thought was that that the preservation looks like that of plant material. The texture looks like it could actually be bone though.

It was found in a river...in WNC. It's approximately 7 inches in length.  It appears to have a foot?

WNC == Western North Carolina,   ??  We have members who are not familiar with the North American Continent..  It does indeed resemble a foot,  but it could also be plants or branches.  I will be curious how identification works out

Yes, I'm sorry, I'm new to this Forum.  It is Western North Carolina

The appearance is similar to coalified plant fragments.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
