New Members Alex Ernest Posted Saturday at 10:13 PM New Members Share Posted Saturday at 10:13 PM Hey everyone, new here. I found this fossilized vertebrae (?) today in Marblehead, MA on the beach among a bunch of beach polished stones. Does anyone have any idea what kind of animal it might be from? Or if it even even is a fossil/ fossilized vertebrae? Sorry it's so worn, definitely been being washed around on the beach for a long while. Fossildude19
Looks to me like camera of an Orthocone nautiloid. 2 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." New Members Alex Ernest Posted Saturday at 11:28 PM Author New Members Share Posted Saturday at 11:28 PM Might I also add that the bottom is concave and it seems as though there are two vertebrae that are stuck together, or some other fossil. There is a prominent circle going through the middle from the top to the bottom, which you can see in the photos I posted. Thanks for the help so far folks! Fossildude19
This would fit Orthocone nautiloid. The prominent circle would be the siphuncle. 1 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 IPFOTM -- MAY - 2024 _________________________________________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks."
